There are 2 types of sugar: White Sugar (GKP = Gula Kristal Putih) and Refined Sugar (GKR = Gula Kristal Rafinasi). This classification is based on the color of sugar crystal, measured in ICUMSA Unit (IU). ICUMSA stands for International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis. The lower the ICUMSA , the whiter the sugar.

The ICUMSA of GKP is usually between 200-300 IU. GKP is distributed through wet market, provision shops, and supermarkets for direct consumption. The Refined Sugar (GKR), which has lower ICUMSA compared to GKP, is intended for Food, Beverage or Pharmaceutical industries that require sugar with high purity.
